Government has earmarked big budget for agricultural sector, says Governor

Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman said on Monday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has allocated sufficient budget for the agricultural sector in the budget for the fiscal year 2022-23.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News – June 21, 2022): Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman said on Monday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has provided sufficient budget for the sector agriculture in the budget for the financial year 2022-23.

Addressing a delegation from the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) at the Governor’s House here, he said the government was using all the resources for the development of the agricultural sector and providing all kinds of facilities to the farmers.

The delegation included the Chairman, REAP Ali Hassam Asghar, Shehzad Ali Malik and Pir Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, as well as members from across Punjab including the Management Committee and former Chairman (REAP) Samiullah Chaudhry.

Governor of Punjab Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman said that about 60% of the country’s population belong to the rural areas whose source of livelihood is agriculture and animal husbandry.

He said: “Agriculture has a fundamental role in the country’s economy and by the grace of Almighty Allah, the land of Pakistan is green and fertile. Baligh-ur-Rehman said the economy could be strengthened by modernizing the agricultural sector.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman said the government is taking all possible measures for the welfare of farmers. He said, “Pakistan is going through difficult times, but thanks to the hard work, dedication and diligent policies of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, we will soon be able to overcome all these problems.” Members of the REAP office informed the Governor of Punjab that REAP exported rice and brought in foreign exchange of 2.5 billion per year to the government. They demanded that the rice exporters association be granted industry status.
