Israeli aggression and global callousness
On August 7, 2022, after killing over 44 Palestinians and wounding over 400, Israel agreed to temporarily halt further aggression in Gaza.
Previously, Israel had massively attacked Gaza with missiles and planes and destroyed homes and other civic facilities in addition to brutally killing innocent Gaza residents.
The ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad was brokered by Egypt, although Turkey is said to have played an important role in the process as well.
This massive massacre of Palestinians took place after Israeli settlers broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and Palestinians protested the incursion.
The video clips and images of the destruction caused and the martyrs and wounded in Gaza, especially children and women, should have shaken the conscience of humanity, regardless of their creed and religion.
But, sadly, the world has been oblivious to these brutalities, including 1.6 billion Muslims.
This is not the first time that Israel has attacked and killed innocent Palestinians; there have been repeated brutal air and ground attacks by Israel in the past as well.
In May 2021, Israeli security forces suddenly stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem as Muslims offered prayers in the mosque.
There were no protests or signs of violence from worshipers as they offered special prayers in the mosque.
Israeli snipers had previously taken up positions (in secret locations) to target Palestinian Muslims.
It was a simultaneous firing of small arms, stun grenades, tear gas and rubber coated metal canisters from all entrances and from rooftops.
Israeli security forces also set fire to the mosque compound. In the following days, Israel attacked Palestinian areas with missiles and airstrikes using its air force against defenseless Palestinians.
The attack continued even during the days of Eid, causing massive casualties and destruction of Palestinian property.
During these brutal attacks, Israeli military attacks killed more than 200 innocent Palestinians, including 40 children and 30 women.
Furthermore, more than 2,500 innocent Palestinians have been injured in these relentless brutal Israeli attacks.
Homes and buildings in Gaza have been destroyed, ruined and turned into rubble.
The prevailing opinion of Middle East experts is that the State of Israel is moving towards full control over the Palestinian territories, leaving no chance for a two-state solution (Israel and Palestine) as previously envisioned.
In addition, the United States is also seen as directly supporting the Israeli state in this final phase of taking control of Palestinian areas.
The United States and all the major powers remained mysteriously silent in the face of these attacks. Besides, the Muslim world was widely seen as quite criminal.
In 2021, the United States twice blocked the progress of the emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Indeed, as US policy, the Biden administration also supports the Israeli state in the face of its brutalities.
To name a few, during President Trump’s four-year reign, the United States has achieved unprecedented gains for the illegal state of Israel.
To name a few; on March 25, 2019, US President Donald Trump officially announced the recognition of the Golan Heights as a sovereign part of the State of Israel.
Golan Heights, Syrian territory has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, occupied during the Six Day War.
Then Israeli Prime Minister Mr Netanyahu called the US decision historic and said: “Israel won the Golan Heights in a just war of self-defense and the roots of the Jewish people in the Golan go back to thousands of years”.
Earlier on December 06, 2017, President Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and declared that the US Embassy would be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This decision was practically implemented by the US and so far many other states have moved their embassies to Jerusalem despite a clear defeat of the US decision in the UN General Assembly.
Indeed, this is part of the gradual consolidation of Palestinian land occupied by the State of Israel which is a clear expression of its expansionist designs.
This is a flagrant violation of United Nations Resolution 181, calling for the partition of Palestinian land into two states; the Arab State (Palestine) gains 43% in area and the Israeli State 57% in area, Jerusalem remaining under international control.
In defiance of the UN resolution, Israel occupied more than 70% of the area in 1948 with the help of the colonial powers; the United Kingdom and France.
It is very regrettable that in recent years certain Arab states have openly and secretly recognized the State of Israel, which goes against their traditional position as well as the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands by Israel.
It seems that most of the Arab world’s ruling elite is in a race to develop closer ties with Israel while undermining the Israeli occupation and, more importantly, Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.
It seems that the Arab elite protects the interests of Israel rather than those of the Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid welcomed this development while declaring it “Important asset for regional stability”.
Analyzing the endless Israeli brutality against the Palestinians, one concludes that Israel would not have dared to attack the Palestinians if there had been unyielding and uncompromising Arab support for the cause of Palestine.
The recurring massacres of Palestinians at the hands of a ruthless Israeli army have only been made possible by indolent Arabs and Muslims fighting each other over petty issues and ignoring the larger cause of Palestine.
