Kedah not dissolving assembly until March despite strong Perikatan momentum, says MB

ALOR SETAR, Nov. 21 – Kedah will stand by his stance of not dissolving the State Legislative Assembly until March next year despite the strong performance of Perikatan Nasional (PN) after winning 13 parliamentary seats in the state in of the 15th general election (GE15).

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the dissolution of the Kedah state assembly will only happen anytime after March next year.

“We don’t want to hold an election now because flooding is expected to occur between November and March, so after March the dissolution of the state assembly can be done at any time. If not done within this time, it will dissolve on its own in July next year.

“But, we have to consider all aspects because of the monsoon transition, the flood usually ends in March and after that we will fast, celebrate Aidilfitri and Aidiladha. Kelantan and Terengganu, to keep it all together for more impact,” he told reporters last night.

He said this when asked if he would dissolve the state assembly following the strong momentum of the PN after winning 13 out of 14 parliamentary seats as announced by the Electoral Commission (EC), yesterday.

Earlier, Muhammad Sanusi who is also the President of Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) attended the PN Thanksgiving ceremony with all newly elected PN MPs in Kedah who were also joined by thousands of supporters of the PN. left at the PAS complex in Kota Sarang Semut, near here. — Bernama
