Minister praises Islamic boarding schools for efforts to deal with COVID-19

We must commend the experience of several Islamic boarding schools which have successfully made efforts to prevent, control and manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas praised the efforts of pesantren, Islamic boarding schools, in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Religious Affairs received here on Friday, Minister Qoumas said Islamic boarding schools have been shown to be able to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic despite limited facilities.

The minister noted that the tradition and prudence taught by kyai, islamic teachers at santri, students of Islamic boarding schools, had become the pillars of Islamic boarding schools to meet the challenges.

Kyai have helped to encourage santri and the general public to participate in COVID-19 vaccinations by being a role model for them.

“We must commend the experience of several Islamic boarding schools which have succeeded in making efforts to prevent, control and manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the minister stressed.

Qoumas noted that for Santri On the day of 2021, Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia received a gift from President Joko Widodo in the form of Presidential Regulation number 82 of 2021 on the funding of Islamic boarding schools.

The presidential regulations provide for the provision of endowment funds for Islamic boarding schools in order to improve the quality of human resources through education in Islamic boarding schools.

Two years ago, on the occasion of the 2019 Santri day on santri received a gift in the form of the ratification of Islamic Boarding School Law number 18 of 2019.

“The Islamic Residential Schools Act and the Presidential Regulations on Funding Islamic Residential Schools are forms of state recognition, affirmation and facilitation of Islamic residential schools. In the future, Islamic boarding schools should continue to develop education, da’wah (Islamic propagation), and empowerment of the community, ”said the minister. (INE)
