Muhammad Mokaev is the fighter to watch

Muhammad Mokaev, 22, is becoming a flyweight star.

At UFC 280, Muhammad Mokaev will face Malcolm Gordon (14-5) for his third career UFC bout. Prodigy Mokaev arrives as a massive -1100 favorite over Gordon, making him by far the biggest favorite on the Abu Dhabi map.

Fresh off his second straight UFC win, with an unbeaten 8-0-0 professional record and a staggering 31-fight winning streak, including amateur bouts, Mokaev is quickly gaining notoriety among fighters, trainers and the entire MMA community.

Born on July 30, 2000 in the Republic of Dagestan and brought up in the North West of England, Mokaev first came to the attention of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Khalifa – the son of the King of Bahrain.

With many dominating performances, Muhammad Mokaev quickly caught the attention of the mixed martial arts world.

Sheikh Khalid was looking for fighters for his KHK MMA team – initially comprising Khabib Nurmagomedov – and his MMA promotion, Brave CF, in which Mokaev competed until his UFC debut against Cody Durden (13-4-1) in March 2022. The result was a 58-second guillotine submission for Mokaev, making him the youngest active fighter on the UFC roster.

After a dominant unanimous decision victory over three-time LFA flyweight champion Charles Johnson (11-3-0) at UFC London: Curtis Blaydes vs. Tom Aspinall on July 23, 2022, exactly one week before his 22nd birthday, Mokaev n Wasted no time grabbing headlines with his candid portrayal of fellow Brit Paddy Pimblett at a post-fight press conference.

“There are so many guys who don’t get a lot of media attention that should get it,” Mokaev said. “Example: Arnold Allen. This is Leon Edwards; it’s Tom Aspinall, Nathaniel Wood. These guys are amazing, good examples. No disrespect to the media, guys, but you give a [expletive] guys like Paddy Pimblett watch out.

Ironically, it was Mokaev who grabbed a lot of attention not just with his words, but with his stellar performance at UFC London. He now prepares to face Gordon this Saturday at UFC 280 for what many believe will be his ninth consecutive professional victory. Highly promising at just 22 years old, Mokaev is a flyweight superstar in the making.
