The Richmond Islamic Center is holding an open house in the mosque on Saturday to educate people from all walks of life about Islam.
“The purpose of the open house is to combat the increase in Islamophobia and to give neighbors the opportunity to get acquainted with their Muslim neighbors while deepening their understanding of the Islamic faith,” one reads in a statement. press release on the event, organized by two groups, GainPeace and the Richmond Islamic Center.
GainPeace is a national Islamic organization which organizes educational forums and provides literature to learn the facts about Islam.
âMuslims open the doors of our mosques to our neighbors to give them the opportunity to get to know the Muslim community,â said GainPeace director Dr Sabeel Ahmed. âThe current political climate has created an environment of mistrust, as well as a public curiosity to learn more about Islam and these open days in mosques will educate them and answer any questions about Islam.
“The open house will also create opportunities to form alliances between American Muslims and their neighbors to improve the community.”
The event, which will also include a social hour and lunch, will run from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Richmond Islamic Center at 8481 Hungary Road in Glen Allen.
