Shura Council President attends IPU Assembly and Islamic Parliamentary Group meeting in Madrid

The President of the Shura Council, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, met yesterday in Madrid with the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Sentop.

Madrid: On the sidelines of the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the President of the Shura Council, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, participated in various important parliamentary meetings and met officials of the IPU and Turkey.

The President participated in the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group on Thursday on the sidelines of the 143rd IPU Assembly.

Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary General Fayez Al Shawabkeh welcomed President HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, wishing him success in the presidency of the Shura Council for the good of the nation and the interests of the citizens, in the expectation to advance the Arab parliament cooperation and coordination.

They discussed several topics on the agenda of the 143rd IPU Assembly, where the representative of the Arab geopolitical group on the IPU Executive Committee made a presentation on the work of the committee. They also exchanged views on requests for the inclusion of emergency or additional items on the Assembly’s agenda, in addition to agreeing on the Arab Group candidates for vacant positions in the standing and subsidiary committees of the IPU.

The President of the Shura Council yesterday met the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union HE Martin Chungong on the sidelines of the 143rd General Assembly in the Spanish capital Madrid.

The existing parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as the means to support and strengthen them, were reviewed. The subjects on the agenda of the General Assembly were also discussed.

The Ambassador of Qatar to Spain, HE Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Hamar, Member of the Shura Council and Chairman of the Internal and External Affairs Committee of the Council, HE Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and Secretary General of the Council HE Dr. Ahmed ben Nasser Al Fadala.

HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim also met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the sister Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Sentop. The aspects of cooperation and existing relations between the two brotherly countries in the parliamentary domain and the means of strengthening them were reviewed. In addition, the two sides discussed topics on the agenda of the General Assembly.

The president participated in the coordination meeting of the Islamic parliamentary group yesterday. He stressed the need to unify positions and agreement regarding the inclusion of the emergency item on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, indicating that coordination and prior cooperation would be successful in efforts to include the point on which the Islamic group agrees. on.

Turkish President Mustafa Sentop gave a speech in which he touched on a range of topics related to Islamic parliamentary work. He stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of supporting it, and of strengthening the parliamentary efforts of Islamic countries to stop violations against Palestinians and work for their rights.

He highlighted the ability of Islamic countries to work together and cooperate fruitfully, saying that the common bonds that unite Islamic countries outweigh the causes of division and difference.

The Shura Council participated in a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on the sidelines of the 143rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) currently being held in Madrid.

Council representatives at the meeting were Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi, Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi, Mohammed bin Omar Al Mannai, members of the council.
