New Delhi: Assam police have arrested two more people from Morigaon district on suspicion of having links to the banned terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). They were identified as Musadik Hussain and Ikramul Islam, said Morigaon Police Superintendent Aparna N.

This comes just days after two people linked to Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and ABT were arrested in Barpeta district on August 28 for allegedly taking part in jihadist activities.

The duo, identified as Akbar Ali and Abul Kalam Azad, were detained in a house in the district’s Sorbhog area.

On August 26, a Madarsa teacher was arrested in Goalpara for having links with AQIS/ABT.

Earlier in August, two Islamic clerics (imams) were arrested in Goalpara district for being involved in radicalizing young Muslims in the state and having links to the terrorist organization AQIS.

They were identified as Abdus Sobahan, a cleric from Tinkonia Shantipur Masjid under Mornoi Police Station and Jalaluddin, a cleric from Tilapara Masjid under Matia Police Station. Sobahan is a member of AQIS, police said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said Assam had become a hotbed of jihadist activity. Five modules with links to Bangladesh’s outlawed Ansarul Islam were dismantled in five months.

In August, CM Sarma asked residents of the state to immediately inform the police that they saw an imam, whom they did not know, visiting their village.

He also asked the police to check and only after that allow the imam to stay there.

“We have made SoPs (standard operating procedure) that if an imam comes to your village and you don’t know him, inform the police station immediately, they will check, only after that can they stay,” the CM had said. from Assam. .
